The state called five witnesses Wednesday in day one of Natchez resident Brenda Reynolds’ murder trial, before recessing for the day.
Reynolds, 32, is standing trial in Adams County Circuit Court this week for the July 1999 murder of her boyfriend, Larry Holiday, 38,
In opening statements, Assistant District Attorney Vincent Davis told the jury that the evidence will show Reynolds shot Holiday.
Davis also said Reynolds confessed the murder to Vifran Carter, a jailmate at the Natchez City Jail, after she was incarcerated.
Reynolds is believed to have told Carter &uot;she was tired of Larry messing with her and following her around,&uot; Davis said.
Defense attorneys, Claude Pintard and Scott Pintard declined to give an opening statement Wednesday, instead choosing to do so after the state rested its case.
During the trial a jury of six men and six women, listened intently as five officials with the Natchez Police Department gave their testimony.
Reynolds, dressed in a white shirt and pants, remained expressionless during the proceedings.
Official believe she shot Holiday, in the chest, arm and leg last summer at his apartment at 573 West Stiers Lane.
Natchez Police officers Ben Hewitt and Joseph Belling told the court they saw Reynolds and another man standing outside the apartment once they arrived at the scene. Reynolds then told them &uot;someone had assaulted Larry,&uot; Hewitt said
Reynolds later told Belling she followed Holiday to his apartment that night to pick up her black hat.
&uot; She then said she heard a loud bang and Larry yell ‘Brenda!Brenda! Brenda!&uot; Belling said.
