Trinity’s Lady Saints and Huntington High’s Lady Hounds will compete in South A State Softball Tournament at Huntington High in Ferriday, La., Saturday.

The Lady Saints enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed from its district.

Trinity, which finished the regular season with a 10-3 record, will play the winner of the Woodland Hills-Tensas Academy game at 9:10 a.m. at the Huntington baseball field.

&uot;Being the host team, Huntington has the home-field advantage,&uot; said Trinity assistant coach Rick Kirby. &uot;I look for Huntington to be in the mix. But we don’t have to go on the road.&uot;

Huntington goes up against University Christian at 10:20 a.m. at the HHS&160;baseball field.

Last year Trinity Episcopal’s softball team came up just short of capturing the MPSA South A State championship, losing to Huntington 15-10.

Trinity got ready for South State by playing two good teams – Amite School Center and Parklane.

&uot;Those were two good tune-up games for us,&uot; Kirby said. &uot;ASC and Parklane are the defending state champions in their class.&uot;

Trinity lost to ASC 12-6 on Monday and Parklane 21-11 on Tuesday.

&uot;We hit the ball well against those two teams,&uot; Kirby said.

Also competing in the South A State Tournament are Claiborne Academy, Union Academy, Central Academy, Porter’s Chapel and Plain Dealing.

Clairborne Academy also got a first-round bye in the tournament.

&uot;Claiborne Academy has a good team, but I don’t know anything about them,&uot; Kirby said.

Despite losing its last two regular-season games, Kirby likes the team’s chances of winning South State.

The last game of the tournament is slated for 10:50 p.m.

&uot;It will probably be later than that,&uot; Kirby said.

The state tournament will be held at Huntington next Saturday.
