St. Jude Benefit plays to large field

The team of Butch Thorpe, Charlie Bradley, Johnny Lee Hoffpauir and Jimmy Bradley had a net score of 47 to win the fourth annual St. Jude Benefit Golf Tournament at the Duncan Park Golf Course on Saturday.
One hundred and thirty-nine players participated in the tournament that was delayed for nearly an hour during the morning due to inclement weather.
The tournament was played using the Oldsmobile Scramble Handicap system in which the team handicap is subtracted from the gross score to get the net score.
Thorpe, Charlie Bradley, Hoffpauir and Jimmy Bradley shot a 55 and had an team handicap of eight.
Carl Brown, Chuck Davis, Phil Pearson and Gary Tucker, representing Air Logistics, had a net score of 49 (57-8) to finish in second place.
Tee Cotten, Doug Johnson, Trey Isbell and Scott Ford, representing Dianne’s Frame Shop, had a 50 (58-8) to finish third.
Cookie Wilson, Larry Davis, George Almayer and Randy Johnson, representing Great River Honda, had a 51 (56-5) for fourth place.
Four teams had a net score of 52 to finish tied for fifth.
More than $10,000 in proceeds will go to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Tom Matthews had the longest drive on the 17th hole and Mikey Mardis had the longest drive on the 7th hole.
