If it’s June, it must be time for Alcorn State assistant basketball coach Sam West’s basketball camps. It also happens to be one of West’s favorite times of the year.

&uot;I just want to invite all of Natchez to come out,&uot; said the former North Natchez basketball coach. &uot;We’re going to make it as much fun as possible and also be teaching fundamentals in the game of basketball. We’ll teach things that have never been taught before. It’s going to be an atmosphere of discipline and love as well.&uot;

The camps will be held at Martin Gym. The girls session will be held May 29-June 1 for grade 1-8 from 8 a.m. to noon.

&uot;The potential for girls basketball is great in this area,&uot;&160;West said. &uot;We want to develop that and help these girls get to the next level.&uot;

The boys will have two sessions from June 12-15. Grades 1-4 will go from 8 a.m. to noon, while grades 5-8 will go from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Registration for both camps is $45.

&uot;We’re hoping and inviting area coaches to be a part of the camps,&uot;&160;West said. &uot;We’ll also have some policemen coming in to speak with the kids about drugs and alcohol,&uot; West said. &uot;And we’re going to have some guest appearances by some college athletes.&uot;

West will also have a boys team camp June this weekend for junior high students.
