Pam Posey had to go two extra holes to get there, but the Marion golfer will meet three-time defending champ Cissye Gallagher for the championship of the Mississippi Women’s Golf Association Tournament for the second straight year.
Posey has never won the championship, finishing second to Gallagher of Greenwood twice and serving as runner-up one other time.
&uot;I’m looking forward to playing Cissye again,&uot; Posey said. &uot;She’s a great golfer and our state is so proud of her.&uot;
Posey and nine-time champion Lou W. Hart of Meridian were tied at the end of 18 holes.
Posey was 1 up going into the final hole, but Hart’s second shot was within a few feet of the hole and she made a par to win the hole and force overtime.
Both golfers missed easy putts down the stretch, with Hart three-putting No. 16 after hitting her first shot into the bunker.
&uot;I didn’t expect that because I haven’t hit it that far all week,&uot; Hart said. &uot;I had some bad breaks, but I played good golf and I’m pleased with that part. I really haven’t played that well the past few years, so I’m pleased to come out and play like this.&uot;
Both golfers parred the first hole in overtime, and Posey was able to par No. 2 to win the match.
&uot;We both felt good on the front nine,&uot;&160;Posey said. &uot;I didn’t expect to play 36 holes tday, so I’m a bit drained. We just kept battling each other. It was back and forth.&uot;
Gallagher held off scrappy Tammy Wroten of Summit 3-2, winning on the 16th hole.
&uot;I&160;had 32 on the front nine and was only two up,&uot; Gallagher said. &uot;She played solid.&uot;
Gallagher has been taking the tournament one match at a time. Now there’s only one left.
&uot;I got excited out there when I realized I was going to be playing for the championship,&uot; she said. &uot;I just want to have a good day and play with a lot of confidence. I’m pleased with the way I am playing now.&uot;

&uot;It feels good, especially since this is the highest flight I’ve ever been in,&uot; Dickens said. &uot;I never expected to play in the second flight. I think the difference is home course knowledge. That’s a real advantage.&uot;
