The 13-year-old and 14-year-old Dixie Boys All-Star teams spent their Fourth of July holiday preparing for what is ahead of them … all-star district tTournaments.

The 13-year-olds, who received a first-round bye, will begin play in Summit at the District Tournament on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

They will play the winner of the Brookhaven-Magnolia game, and the 14-year- olds, who are hosting this year’s tournament start play at 8 p.m. Saturday against Franklin County.

Joe Joe Eidt, head coach of the 13-year-olds, and 14-year-old head coach Willie Riley agree that both of their teams are ready to quit practicing and start playing.

&uot;We’ve been practicing real hard over the past two weeks, and I&160;can just tell that all the players are tired of practicing and are hungry to start playing against other teams,&uot;&160;Eidt said.

Riley said he feels his team’s chances are above average due to the fact that &uot;we don’t seem to have any weak spots.&uot;

&uot;Our pitching is above average, all of our hitters are very good, and we’ve got a strong defense. Overall, we seem to be in good shape,&uot;&160;Riley said.

Riley feels that his team’s dedication and commitment to winning will determine how far they go in post-season play.

&uot;Everybody has the right attitude. I’ve had some ask me if we can start practicing twice a day. Now obviously, we can’t ask boys this young to do that, but the fact remains, they’ve got their heart and soul put into this team,&uot;&160;Riley said.

Eidt said even though he’s a little concerned about his team’s defense, he feels that if everything else goes right, they should have no trouble bringing home a district championship.

&uot;If everyone’s on, we can beat anybody,&uot;&160;Eidt said. &uot;They’re all gamers. If everyone’s ready to play each day the way I know they can play, we’ll go far. I&160;like our chances a lot. We’ve got a great group, and we’re as strong as any 13-year old team around. &uot;We’ve got reserves that anywhere else would be starters, that’s just how deep we are.&uot;

If everything goes right, they should have no trouble bringing home a District championship.
