The first tournament played at Beau Pré Country Club is returning.
The Mississippi Senior Golf Association’s Isle of Capri Tournament is next week in Natchez.
The tournament was one of the first tournaments played at Beau Pré when it opened one year ago, and Beau Pré Club Professional Mark Powell is happy to have it back.
Powell said he is also happy with Beau Pré’s first year.
&uot;Everything is tracking along just like we hoped,&uot; Powell said.
Phase one of construction is basically complete, Powell said.
&uot;We will be done with the putting green within the month,&uot; he said.
Powell said the only construction left at the club is to build the clubhouse, but improvements may not end there. &uot;We have completed the first phase, the second phase is the club house and there is more room to expand,&uot; Powell said.
The club house will be built on a lot adjacent to the pro shop, Powell said.
Now, the golf course is coming full circle to the first tournament played on its fairways.
&uot; The (Mississippi Senior Golf) Association doesn’t normally make a return trip to a golf course,&uot; Powell said.
The group travels five or six times per year to play a golf tournament for one week on different courses.
Next week, 96 couples will play in three tournaments in Natchez.
The husband and wife tournament is Tuesday, July 25, at Beau Pré.
The ladies’ tournament is Wednesday, July 26, at Duncan Park.
On Thursday, July 27, and Friday, July 28, the men will play a two-round tournament at Beau Pré.
One of the reasons the association is coming back to Natchez is the Beau Pré golf course, said Baxter Lee of Natchez , one of the tournament hosts.
Lee said the association members enjoyed their visit to Natchez last year and a spot was available for a trip to Natchez, so they decided to come back.
