Carla Evers wants to &uot;touch eternity&uot; as the new principal at Morgantown Elementary School.
The eternity she speaks of lies in the 1,200 students who attend her school and will pass on what they learn to future generations.
&uot;I have 1,200 children who I can touch,&uot; Evers said. &uot;I just truly believe this my purpose in life – to work with children.&uot;
Evers has been in education for 10 years, including three years as a teacher at Morgantown School.
&uot;I’m just elated to be back in this (administrative) capacity,&uot; she said.
Evers said she wanted to be an administrator because you can &uot;touch more children&uot; in that position.
And returning to the school Monday to meet with teachers on their first day back at work was almost like Christmas, she said. &uot;You just can’t put it into words.&uot;
Evers, whose mother and grandmother both worked in public education, has been around schools her entire life.
&uot;Schools have always been like a second home to me,&uot; she said.
As the principal at Morgantown, Evers will manage a staff of 120 people.
Morgantown&160;School’s theme has long been &uot;Morgantown the Best Around.&uot;
And this year this school is adding a new component to that theme – &uot;Every Child a Success,&uot; Evers said.
&uot;We want to help our children have a bunch of success&uot;&160;that will lead to a greater success, Evers said.
&uot;As a teacher you should always find something a child can be successful at and build from that.&uot;
Evers also wants to increase parental involvement in the school.
&uot;We’re trying to unite our parents and get them in the building working with us,&uot; she said. &uot;The children like to see their parents in the school.&uot;
Evers replaced former Morgantown Principal Carrie Cupit, who is now the principal at West Primary School.
Evers also has worked as a resource teacher/assistant principal at Frazier Primary and as an assistant principal at Morgantown.
She has undergraduate and masters degrees in education and a certification in administration.
