Has Green Wave found a quarterback?

VIDALIA, La. — Like the song says, it’s not easy being green. For new Green Wave quarterback Bart Lane, a truer statement was never made.
In his first outing as Cathedral’s quarterback Saturday at the Vidalia Jamboree, Lane was one for five for only five yards.
He threw one interception and was sacked twice.
All in all, it wasn’t a bad outing for someone who hasn’t played quarterback — or football, for that matter — at the high school level.
&uot;You can’t expect him to go out there and play like a polished star,&uot; Cathedral head coach Ken Beesley said. &uot;He’s still learning.&uot;
Cathedral began the season with no one on the roster with any high school quarterback experience.
Although Lane had not played football since junior high, the 6-foot-2, 160-pound junior earned the starting job during summer practice.
&uot;I think I’ve got a shot at it,&uot; Lane said of keeping the starting job.
&uot;I’ve just got to work hard and keep at it.&uot;
Beesley said Lane will be his starter Aug. 31 when the Green Wave travels to Warren Central.
&uot;I don’t think he hurt us,&uot; Beesley said. &uot;Our whole offense needs to get better.&uot;
Beesley said most of Lane’s mistakes could be directly attributed to inexperience, a problem easily fixed with playing time.
&uot;That one pass, the interception, he just needed to get rid of the ball quicker,&uot; Beesley said. &uot;The man was open. That just comes from experience.
&uot;He’ll get better as the year goes on.&uot;
Lane agreed. &uot;I just need to practice and get in better shape,&uot; he said. &uot;Overall, I think I did pretty good.&uot;
With Lane at the helm, Cathedral tied Sicily Island 14-14 in the first scrimmage and lost to Newellton 8-0 in the second.
