Overcast skies and unseasonably cool temperatures helped make for an exciting round of golf in the inaugural Natchez Downtown Development Association Golf Scramble Thursday at Beau Pré Country Club.
The team of Paul Sparks, Adrian Stallone and Chris Hutchins had a score of 58 to win by one stroke.
&uot;As a team, we played as good as we could,&uot; Sparks said. &uot;We had a team putting effort. Chris made some awesome putts and Adrian made some awesome putts.&uot;
Kurt Russ, Chad Huber and Jim Willard finished second with a 59.
&uot;We had a good round,&uot; Huber said. &uot;We putted real well. We had a 12-footer for birdie on No. 8 and all three of us missed it. Other than that, we did well.&uot;
&uot;It was an all-around team effort,&uot; Russ said.
Joe McNight, Jodie Waldrop and Dan Bland finished in third place with a 60.
Ross Partridge, Benny Bell and Hank Smith won a scorecard playoff for fourth place over Jerry Pyron, Bob O’Brien and Bobby McCool.
Both teams had carded 61s.
Something just about all the golfers were glad to see was the cloud cover and the temperature in the 70s all day long.
Two golfers who played Labor Day weekend when the temperature was in the low 100s were Bobby Russ and Bobby Meason.
&uot;This is good golfing weather,&uot; said Bobby Russ, who also played in Monday’s Labor Day Breakfast Scramble at Beau Pré.
&uot;If it was like this a few more days and if it rained it would be nice. It’s a lot more fun,&uot; he said.
&uot;There is no comparison,&uot; said Meason, who played in Saturday’s and Sunday’s Beau Pré Club Championship. &uot;The concentration is better. It’s fun out here. It’s beautiful.&uot;
The scramble was a fund-raiser to help the NDDA pay its $4,500 debt to the state downtown development association.
