The sixth annual Miss-Lou United Way Four-Man Golf Scramble fund-raiser will take place this Saturday at the Duncan Park Golf Course.

&uot;This is our only big fund-raiser of the year,&uot; said Monica Lynch, director of the United Way of the Greater Miss-Lou. &uot;This fund-raiser is basically for the United Way. IP (International Paper) is our biggest donator.&uot;

Lynch said the money the United Way makes from this tournament will be allocated for the 25 agencies.

&uot;Last year we raised about $11,500,&uot; Lynch said. &uot;This year we are hoping for around $10,000 to $11,000. &uot;

Lynch said 100 people have registered for the tournament so far, but she still would like to have 70 more people register.

&uot;We usually have 160 to 170 players in this tournament,&uot; Lynch said.

The entry fee of $75.00 includes green fees, cart, lunch, tickets for golfers-only prizes and the reception.

&uot;We’re getting prizes donated from local merchants for a raffle,&uot; Lynch said. &uot;The top two teams will receive a trophy. There will also be prizes for closest to the pin and longest drive.&uot;

Isle of Capri Casino has also donated a two-night, three-day cruise to be given away during the tournament awards ceremony.

Lynch said players can register during the day of the tournament.

&uot;The first tee-off is at 8:30 a.m., so they can register that morning,&uot; Lynch said. &uot;Those who want to start at the 1:30 p.m. tee-off can register until 1 p.m.&uot;

Ricky Rowlin, who is the owner of the Sandbar Restaurant in Vidalia, will be frying fish, Lynch said.

The good news for the golfers participating in Saturday’s tournament is that weather will be cool and dry with the morning temperature in the 60s and the afternoon high temperature in the low 80s.
