Wave still looking for first win at St. Andrews

Starting the season 0-5 is something Cathedral head football coach Ken Beesley Sr. is not used to.

Beesley obviously hopes his Green Wave will finally get into the win column, but it won’t be easy as they hit the road for a District 7-2A contest against St. Andrews at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

This will be the district opener for the Saints, who have a 3-3 record.

&uot;We’ve had a good week of practice,&uot; Beesley said. &uot;We’ve been working a lot on pass defense. I’m more worried about their offense than their defense.

&uot;We’re going to have to outscore them,&uot; Beesley said. &uot;There’s no way we’re going to shut down their offense. We’re going to have to score at least three touchdowns.&uot;

Defensively, St. Andrews runs a 5-man front that tries to stop the run more than the pass, Beesley said.

Beesley said his team will not be doing anything different this week compared to what they did last week against Loyd Star.

&uot;We’re going to run a two-back set and we may throw the ball a little more this week,&uot; he said. &uot;We’re going to try to run traps, sweeps and quick pitches.&uot;

Despite the 28-18 loss to Loyd Star, Beesley was proud of the way his team played.

&uot;I liked our effort against Loyd Star last week. If we can play with the effort we did last week, we have a good chance to win.&uot;
