VIDALIA, La. – Loyola Prep running back John Alston may not be on the team’s roster, but he sure was in Friday night’s game in a big way against the Vidalia Vikings at Viking Stadium.

Alston rushed for 308 yards on 30 carries and ran for five touchdowns as the Flyers defeated the Vikings 35-20 in a non-district contest.

&uot;We can take the most average back and turn him into USA Today in just 48 minutes,&uot; said Vidalia head coach Dee Faircloth.

&uot;Alston’s committed to Stanford, not as a running back, but as a linebacker.&uot;

Alston scored on runs of 50, 2, 87, 13 and 4 yards for all of Loyola’s touchdowns.

Faircloth said his team was outmanned and lost to a better ball club.

Vidalia took a 14-7 first-quarter lead on a 40-yard interception return by T.J. Banks.

That would be the only lead the Vikings would have in the game.

The Vikings trailed by only one point going into the fourth quarter before Alston scored two of his touchdown runs to put the game out of reach.

Jarrett Hoffpauir completed 10 of 22 passes for 129 yards and a 7-yard touchdown pass to Jim Bob Hancock in the first quarter.

Hoffpauir also ran for 29 yards on six carries and scored from six yards out in the second quarter. Banks led Vidalia in rushing with 62 yards on 22 carries.

Ryan Boles caught two passes for 60 yards for the Vikings.

Vidalia, 3-5, returns to District 3-2A action when it hosts Crowville for homecoming next at 7 p.m. Friday.
