FERRIDAY, La. – Ferriday’s 42-0 homecoming win over Block Friday placed the Trojans one step closer to a district championship.

&uot;It’s a district win,&uot; Ferriday coach James McFarland said. &uot;But then all wins are good.&uot;

The Ferriday scoring rampage started early when quarterback Tyrrence Taylor sailed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Nathaniel Smith three minutes into the game.

Sophomore Taylor totaled 209 yards for the game, connecting three times with leading receiver Lawrence Washington.

Washington went on to put up three touchdowns for the Trojans – one in the final seconds of the third quarter.

&uot;Lawrence is a consistent receiver,&uot; McFarland said after the game. &uot;We go to him a lot.&uot;

There was action on the ground, too. Block’s freshman running back Eddie Wilkinson boosted the team’s 91 rushing yards.

Bear quarterback Charles Branch opted for the keeper several times, picking up small yardage that contributed to Block’s 14 first downs.

But it wasn’t enough to stand up to Ferriday’s footwork. Senior Corey Gordon carried the ball for 171 total yards followed by classmate Carlton Curvin with 65 yards.

Fumbles and interceptions, including an pick by Ferriday’s Theotis Cummings, plagued both teams, but the Trojans managed to recover three of their four drops and Block lost only one of their five.

&uot;We started out pretty sluggish, but picked it up in the second half,&uot; McFarland said.

Next week, undefeated Ferriday travels to Tallulah to take on the McCall Dragons – a tough game that is expected to decide the district championship, McFarland said.

&uot;We weren’t thinking about (next week’s game) tonight,&uot; McFarland said. &uot;We’re going to be focused and ready to go.&uot;
