The Prentiss Christian Lady Saints came back from a 10-point deficit to defeat the Adams County Christian Lady Rebels 37-36 Monday night at the Rebel Gym in the season opener for both teams.

Prentiss Christian won the game despite having only eight players dressed out for the game.

Lindsay Brooks led Prentiss Christian (1-0) with 14 points and hit two three-pointers, but it was what she did at the end of the game that secured the win.

After Holli Hankins tied the game at 36 with about eight seconds left, Brooks was fouled by Hankins with 3.2 seconds left.

Brooks missed the first free throw but made the second one for a one-point lead.

ACCS appeared like it was going to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, as Hankins was wide open on the inbound pass.

But Brooks got a hand up, stole the ball near midcourt and barely stayed inbounds long enough to pass it to one of her teammates as time expired.

&uot;I didn’t think our team played well at all until the fourth quarter,&uot; said Prentiss Christian head coach Frank Miller. &uot;We created some turnovers and were able to capitalize off them in the fourth quarter. We were lucky to win this one.&uot;

ACCS (0-1) led 25-18 going into the fourth quarter and 28-18 early in the fourth before Prentiss Christian’s amazing rally.

&uot;I’m very happy for the way both teams played,&uot; said ACCS head coach Bruce Pickle. &uot;I was proud of the way the kids played. They (PC) played hard too.&uot;

Hankins led ACCS with 14 points, including two three-pointers and Kittye Marks had nine points.

Heather McPhail had nine points and 12 rebounds for Prentiss Christian.

The Lady Rebels return to action Thursday night when they host Tensas.

In the junior varsity girls game, ACCS held off several Prentiss Christian rallies for a 45-40 win. Nikki Hankins led ACCS with 14 points.
