Putts key to win at Beau Pré

The team of Jeff Jennings, Ray Lefevre, Lauren McLaurin and Bill Byrne had a score of 122 to win the first Isle of Capri Pro-Am Golf Tournament Tuesday at Beau Pr\u00E9 Country Club.

Scoring for the tournament was done in a unique way – low ball (gross) plus low ball net (handicap).

Jennings, golf pro at Pine Burr Golf Club in Hattiesburg, shot a 72, good enough for a tie for second place among the pros.

&uot;We had fun,&uot; Jennings said. &uot;My 11-handicap (McLaurin) made 24 putts. He made everything.&uot;

&uot;Beau Pr\u00E9 is one of the top five golf courses in the state, and it’s our favorite,&uot; Jennings added.

David Coleman had the lowest score among the pros with a 71 and was closest to the hole on the seventh hole.

McLaurin had the lowest score among the amateurs with a 70 and was closest to the hole on the fourth hole.

&uot;We had fun and we love this golf course,&uot; he said.

Kent Smith, golf pro at Vicksburg Country Club in Vicksburg, Carl Smith, Don Morton and Chee Chee Barnes came in second with a 124.

Barnes was second in low scores among amateurs with a 71.

Kevin Walls, golf pro at River Bend Links in Robinsonville, Larry Wojtaski, Mark Mason and Baxter Lee came in third place by winning a scorecard playoff over the team of Pro Golf (Tupelo) golf pro Jim Dorman, Tommy Geoghegan, Jimmy Brasseaux and Frank Benedetto.

Both teams had scores of 125.

Walls tied Jennings for second place for lowest score among the pros with a 72. Lee was closest to the hole on the 13th hole.

Chris Hutchins was closest to the hole on the the 16th hole. Smith Ourso, golf pro at Riverdale Country Club in Donaldsonville, La., had the longest hole among the pros and Tim Hebert had the longest drive among the amateurs.
