BATON ROUGE, La. – It was the prototypical late-November playoff game. A one-point game, cold weather and mud — lots of it.

Weather was a determining factor in Ferriday’s 19-18 playoff win over Christian Life Academy Friday, as a cold, driving rain contributed to nine fumbles in the game.

&uot;The weather was bad,&uot; said Ferriday coach James McFarland. &uot;But I thought we moved the ball well.&uot;

Both teams kept to the ground in the first quarter and scored on their opening possessions in a mist. The rain increased and began to take it’s toll in the second quarter. Christian Life lost two fumbles and Ferriday lost one, and Trojans, quarterback Tyrrence Taylor, who was 3-for-3 for 29 yards in the opening drive, completed only 1-of-4 attempts for four yards in the second quarter.

By the end of the game, the Crusaders lost three of four fumbles and the Trojans lost one of five. The passing games of both teams suffered as well, as Taylor finished five-of-nine for only 41 yards and Crusaders quarterback

Michael Clayton completed no passes in three attempts. He also threw an interception that was returned 95 yards by Fred Jones for a touchdown.
