Crowds were sparse at the Sugar Plum children’s Christmas festival Saturday, mostly due to the cold drizzle outside.

But those who did attend the festival, which was held at the Mississippi National Guard Armory on Liberty Road, browsed and bought from one end of the building to the other.

&uot;We came to buy Christmas stuff, of course, and for the antique pictures,&uot; said Donna Buckles, who attended with daughter Megan and son Tyler.

&uot;From what we’re seen, it’s really a nice show.&uot;

Children’s activities included Christmas sing-alongs and crafts such as fingerpainting and sand bottle booths.

But most of the festival’s offerings were for adults, in the form of booths full of arts and crafts for sale.

They could choose from Christmas ornaments and wreaths, children’s outfits, toys, collectible dolls and just about every home decoration one could imagine.

Pat Stroud, who organized the event with fellow promoter Faye Arnold, said they got the idea for the show from a similar event they held in Vicksburg.

&uot;We’ve got something for everyone,&uot; Stroud said.

The festival will continue today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
