Two Adams County teenagers were arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing 12 guns from a relative’s residence. Russell Surrena, 18, 78 Cardinal Drive and a 15-year-old juvenile are both charged with burglary of a dwelling for breaking into the residence at 38 Roseland Forest Drive, said Adams County Sheriff Tommy Ferrell.
Deputies believe the suspects entered the house through a rear window.
The resident had been out of town at the time and reported the crime at 10:20 p.m. Sunday after returning home, Ferrell said.
In addition to other items, several thousand dollars’ worth of guns were taken from the house. They included:
One .22-caliber pistol.
One .38-caliber pistol
One 50-caliber muzzle loader.
One 45-caliber muzzle loader.
Two Marlin rifles with scopes.
Two .410-gauge shotguns.
One Browning 16-gauge single barrel shotgun.
One J.C. Higgins 16-gauge shotgun
Two .22-caliber rifles.
After speaking with an informant, deputies were able to connect the suspects to the crime, Ferrell said.
Deputies found all the guns and other stolen items buried off Cardinal Drive.
&uot;We assume they were going to take them and sell them,&uot; Ferrell said.
The suspects did not steal any ammunition except what was in the firearms, which was not much, Ferrell said.
The name of the 15-year-old cannot be released because he is a juvenile. He was being held without bond Thursday for Adams County Youth Court. He has no prior criminal record, Ferrell said.
Surrena was being held on a $25,000 bond Thursday. He was originally arrested on a warrant for unpaid traffic violations with the Natchez Police Department until deputies were ready to charge him with the burglary charge.
He is also charged with malicious mischief in Adams County Youth Court for his alleged vandalism of the Old Country Club, Ferrell said.
