Louis Hickingbottom

Nov. 20, 1926 – Jan. 11, 2001

MEADVILLE – Services for Louis Hickingbottom, 74, of Meadville, who died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Franklin County Hospital, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Saint Paul United Methodist Church with the Dr. Rev. J.D. Tillman officiating.

Burial will be in the Old Sixteen Cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Hickingbottom was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Franklin County, the son of Tom Hickingbottom and Ida Nelson Hickingbottom.

He was a truck driver, a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and World War II veteran.

Mr. Hickingbottom was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joe Hickingbottom and Kenneth Hickingbottom; three sisters, Lula McFell, Sadie Weathersby and Faye Milton; and one daughter, Carolyn Hickingbottom.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Mae Thomas; four brothers, Henry Hickingbottom of Meadville, James Hickingbottom and his wife, Ethel Mae, of New Haven, Bob Hickingbottom of Jackson and Elmo Hickingbottom and his wife, Willie Mae, of Indianola; Guynell Hickingbottom of Meadville; Ruby Reed of Natchez; Joan Frye and Garyl Eachols of East Chicago, Ind.; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Carl Weathersby, Derrel Weathersby, Larry Hickingbottom, David Hickingbottom, Tyrone Hickingbottom and Joe Hickingbottom.

Zadie Lorean Basham

Dec. 8, 1906 – Jan. 14, 2001

AMORY – Services for Zadie Lorean Basham, 94, who died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory, will be at 10 a.m. today at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Allen Simpson, Bro. Dennis Smithey and Bro. Ferman Anderson officiating.

Burial will be in the Center Hill Cemetery in Hamilton under the direction of E.E. Pickle Funeral Home.

Mrs. Basham was born Dec. 8, 1906, in Hamilton, the daughter of Charlie and Florence Anglin Nix.

She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County and retired in 1969 from Glenn Manufacturing Co. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Amory and the Triple L Club until she became disabled. She had been a resident of Beverly Health Care in Amory since Sept. 1993.

Mrs. Basham was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Winston Basham; three sons, Horace, Arling Lee and Charles Hubert Basham; two brothers, Arthur and Avery Lee Nix; one sister, Fonnie Bell; two grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Vivian Basham of Amory; six daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Dub McCauley of Jackson, Sarah and Jimmy Simmons of Natchez, Linda and Ellis Hall of Tupelo, Illa Ree and Curtis Smith of Nettleton, Faye and Harold Conners of Aberdeen and Joyce and Marion King of Amory; two daughters-in-law, Ruth Basham of Hamilton and Myrel Basham of Nettleton; 21 grandsons, Jimmy and Gary Basham, the Rev. Allen Basham, Danny Patterson, Larry Hadaway, Curtis &uot;Buddy&uot; Smith Jr., Chad Logan, Jimmy Hall, Tommie, Dewayne, Randle, Ricky, Greg and Mike Basham, Barry Lynn, Charles Edwin &uot;Eddie&uot;, Jerry and Teddy Hadaway, Robert Smith, Steve and Brian Logan; 10 granddaughters, Jone Cornelius and Gloria Jones of Tupelo, Marcell Senter of Iuka, Rhonda Binns of Natchez, Vickie Langford, Barbara Jane Gadd, Brenda Cox and Charlotte Blake, all of Nettleton, Angie Tidwell of Amory and Sandra Gosa of Hamilton; 57 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jimmy and Gary Basham, the Rev. Allen Basham, Danny Patterson, Larry Hadaway, Curtis &uot;Buddy&uot; Smith Jr., Chad Logan and Jimmy Hall.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tommie, Dewayne, Randle, Ricky, Greg and Mike Basham, Barry Lynn, Charles Edwin &uot;Eddie,&uot; Jerry and Teddy Hadaway, Robert Smith, Steve and Brian Logan.

The family requests memorials be made to the Center Hill Cemetery Fund, Hamilton, Miss.

Lou Katherine Holmes Stearns

Oct. 11, 1911 – Jan. 15, 2001

Graveside services for Lou Katherine Holmes Stearns, 89, of Baton Rouge, La., who died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Flannery Oaks Guest House, will be at 3 p.m. today at Hollywood Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. David Millican officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Catchings Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 1 to 2:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stearns was born Oct. 11, 1911, in Tylertown, the daughter of James Marshall Holmes and Leota Thomas Holmes.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, the Daughter’s of the American Revolution and former president of the Credit Womens Breakfast Club. She was a retired loan officer with American Bank and Trust.

Mrs. Stearns was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph W. Stearns; three brothers, William, Jewell and Milton Holmes; and one sister, Julia Mae Willoughby.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie Stearns Levert of Baton Rouge and Martha Stearns Jordan and Jerre Jordan of Baton Rouge and Natchez; one sister, Katie Nell Ogletree of McComb; five grandchildren, Kay Stanzel, Beth Champagne, Chuck Levert, Jeff Jordan and Blair DeFrank; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tom Willoughby, Jerre Jordan, Jeff Jordan and Chris Stanzel.

Funeral arrangements for Deacon Marion Harried, Sr., 83, of Fayette, who died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, are incomplete at Spencer Funeral Home.

Harden Wilson Wallace

Services for Harden Wilson Wallace, of Natchez, who died Thursday Jan. 11, 2001, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. today at Zion Chapel A.M.E., with the Rev. Bland&160;Washington officiating.

Burial will be at Pine Hill Memorial Park, under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Wallace was born in Adams County, the son Malissa and Walter Wallace.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and worked at the Armstrong Tire Plant for 41 years, with perfect attendance until retiring in Oct. 1983.

He was a member of the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church and a conference Sunday school superintendent trustee and steward.

He was president of the Natchez Business and Civic League, the Hiram Revel F.&A.M., Prince Hall affiliation, and the Alcorn State University Alumni Association.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice W. Wallace; three sons and their wives; Harden Wallace Jr., Rep. Tom Wallace and Yvonne Wallace and Keith Wallace and Pamela Wallace; four daughters and their husbands; Josephine Cottingham, Dr. Laverna Little and Ronald Little, Ruth D. Harris and the Rev. Darlena Pickett and Oscar Pickett; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Neva Dumas, Roaberta Ellis, Lucile Causey and Ella Mae Smallwood and her husband Richard Smallwood; two brothers, William Wallace and C.P. Wallace and his wife Marguerite Wallace; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be the members of the H.R. Revel Lodge No. 3, Prince Hall affiliation.

Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Barnes, Earl Nichols, Frances Ransom, Ronald Little, Oscar Pickett, William Coleman and members of the Natchez Business and Civic League.
