VICKSBURG – After Friday’s win over Chamberlain-Hunt, Trinity Lady Saints senior Sara Greer said her team would have to step it up a notch to defeat Porter’s Chapel Saturday.

Greer did her part by scoring 17 points, but she was one of the few bright spots for Trinity as Porter’s Chapel shocked the Lady Saints 71-39 in Vicksburg.

E.J. Willis outscored the entire Trinity team with 43 points. Her sister, Brady Willis, added another 13.

Saints 76, Porter’s Chapel 47

The Trinity boys had an easier time than the girls Saturday with a 76-47 win over Porter’s Chapel.

&uot;Pushing the ball and running the court was the key,&uot; said Chad Ridley, who scored a game-high 29 points. &uot;Those guys were big and they couldn’t keep up.&uot;

Fatigue played an obvious factor, as Trinity extended its 54-41 third-quarter lead with a 22-6 run in the final period.

Porter’s Chapel’s size was a problem early on for the Saints, said Chase Brown, who scored 16 points.

&uot;They had two tall guys, and we had problems with them. Our press wasn’t working against them,&uot; he said. &uot;Then we started pushing the ball and get points off fast-breaks. That finally started to stop the big guys.&uot;

Joseph Ivey led Porter’s Chapel with 21 points, and Trey White added 16.

Gregory Ketchings scored 18 points for Trinity (17-3).

Lady Hounds 45, Tensas 41

The Huntington Lady Hounds improved to 15-8 Saturday with a close 45-41 win at Tensas.

Kathleen Elder led the Lady Hounds with 13 points. Emily Hazlip and Lauren Wagoner each chipped in seven.

Pamela Netterville scored 13 points to lead Tensas (8-13), and Kate Hawkins added 10.

Tensas 54, Hounds 43

The Tensas Chiefs took an early lead and held on for a 54-43 win Saturday over the visiting Huntington Hounds.

Daniel Mascagni, Lee Hale and Jason May each scored 10 points to lead the Chiefs (11-8).

Jordan Owens led Huntington (10-12) with nine points, and Josh Johns added 10 rebounds, five points and five blocks.

Both Trinity and Huntington return to District 5-1A action Tuesday when the Saints host the Hounds.

&uot;They’ll be ready,&uot; said Huntington coach Paul Glynn. &uot;You don’t have to do much to get them ready to play Trinity.&uot;
