FERRIDAY, La. – Trinity may dominate MPSA District 5-1A’s varsity scene but the Lady Saints got a frightening glimpse of the district’s future in Saturday’s district junior varsity tournament.

The Huntington Lady Hounds decimated the Lady Saints 50-10 in the tournament final to take the junior varsity district title.

&uot;The girls were fired up,&uot; said Huntington coach Penny Moak. &uot;I had five freshmen that knew this would be their last game, and they came ready to play.&uot;

The Lady Hounds held Trinity scoreless in the second quarter and took a 26-4 lead at halftime, thanks in part to Erin Hedrick, who finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

&uot;She’s a natural athlete,&uot; Moak said. &uot;Erin has a real big heart.&uot;

The Lady Hounds racked up 31 steals in the game.

Hedrick, Whitney Bradford – who finished with 14 points – and Jessie Moak – who scored seven points and earned nine steals – will move to the Lady Hounds’ varsity team for next week’s varsity tournament, Moak said.

&uot;I think they’ll come in and really improve the team,&uot; Moak said. &uot;They’ll push the girls already there to work harder.&uot;

Hedrick and Bradford were also instrumental in Huntington’s semifinal game win over Chamberlain-Hunt Academy. Hedrick scored 14 and Bradford added 11 in the 55-17 blow-out.

Trinity made it to the final round with a 49-28 win over Ben’s Ford. Lauren Harper scored 16 points for Trinity, Mallory Archer added 14 and Katie Meritt scored 10.
