Glen Williams scored 10 of his team-high 14 points in the first half as the Adams County Christian Rebels defeated the Silliman Wildcats 58-38 to win the MPSA District 4-3A Junior High Basketball Tournament Monday night at the Rebel Gym.

Defense was another key to the win, and the district title, for top-seeded ACCS (17-1). The Rebels held Silliman (7-5) scoreless in the first quarter and to seven points in the second quarter.

&uot;Our ability to play defense put it away,&uot; said Rebels head coach Paul Hayles.

Led by Williams, ACCS scored 15 points in the first and second quarters to take a 23-point halftime lead.

&uot;Glen’s aggressive up front,&uot; Hayles said. &uot;He creates a lot of fast break opportunities for us.&uot;

While Williams cooled off in the second half, Hunter Halford, Dustin Case and Luke Ogden picked up their games.

Halford finished with nine points while Case and Ogden had eight points each.

&uot;Dustin Case did a great job running the offense from the point all year,&uot; Hayles said. &uot;Luke and Chase (Clayton) were tough inside all year.&uot;

Chad Fontenot tried to lead Silliman back by scoring 12 of his game-high 19 points in the second half, but it was not enough.

ACCS got to the championship game by defeating Centreville 48-33.

In that game, the Rebels held the Tigers scoreless in the first quarter. Ray Simpson led ACCS in that game with 13 points.

Blake Crawford led Centreville with seven points.
