FERRIDAY, La. – The Ferriday Chamber of Commerce is working to establish a committee that would be in charge of donations of money or artifacts to a new Ferriday museum, Past President Chris Vaughan said Monday.

Paperwork has been filled out to apply for 501(c)3 nonprofit status for a foundation that would receive donations of money or artifacts for the planned Delta Roots Music Museum. But in order to apply for such status, a committee must be named to run the foundation, and the names of officers must be submitted as part of the paperwork.

So an organizational meeting for that foundation committee has been scheduled for Feb. 15. &uot;We want to get as many people involved in this as possible,&uot;&160;Vaughan said. An initial meeting was held last week on the project, and another meeting will be held today to draw up bylaws for the foundation.

And the chamber is waiting to receive the third of four $10,000 grant payments from the State Association of Museums to help pay for work to the old post office building on Louisiana Avenue, which will house the museum.

&uot; We’ve still got to do work on the floors and the exhibit spaces, but we can’t do much more until we get that money,&uot; he said. Chamber President De Rice could not be reached for comment Monday.
