Trinity and Huntington’s varsity girls teams will face each

other in the championship game of the MPSA District 5-1A Tournament

at Amite School Center in Liberty at 7 p.m. today.

Trinity advanced to the championship game with a 63-25 win

over Ben’s Ford on Friday.

Vanessa Gordon had 16 points, Sara Greer had 14 points and

Becky Bass had 11 points to lead Trinity (24-4).

Huntington advanced with a 58-46 win over Amite School Center

on Friday.

Sarah Ashmore and Kathleen Elders had 14 points each and Emily

Hazlip had 11 points to lead Huntington (19-9).

&uot;I thought we started playing defensively real well,&uot;

said Huntington coach Penny Moak. &uot;We also shot the ball

well.&uot;

Trinity’s varsity boys team will play Ben’s Ford in the championship

game at 8:30 p.m. today.

Trinity advanced to the title game with an 88-79 overtime win

over Chamberlain-Hunt Academy.

Trinity outscored CHA 11-2 in the overtime period.

Chase Brown had 24 points, Chad Ridley had 21 points, Gregory

Ketchings had 15 points and Dudley Guice, whose basket at the

buzzer forced overtime, had 13 points to lead Trinity (20-3).

&uot;We came out pretty strong in the first quarter. They

hit a lot a of threes in the second quarter and we were down by

14 at halftime,&uot; Brown said. &uot;We had the ball with nine

seconds left (in regulation) and Chad missed a six or seven-foot

bank shot, but Dudley made the putback to send the game into overtime.&uot;

&uot;We took it to the hole and got some lay-ups (in overtime),&uot;

he said.

Ben’s Ford advanced to the final round by defeating Huntington.
