Natchez opens division play with 12-0 Jackson-Provine win

Natchez High senior pitcher Brian Kossum threw a no-hitter as the Bulldogs 10-run ruled Provine by defeating the Rams 12-0 in five innings in the Division 6-5A opener Tuesday in Jackson.

&uot;All my pitches weren’t working. The fastball was all I had, but they weren’t hitting it,&uot; Kossum said. &uot;I had a lot of good defense behind me.&uot;

Brock Barlow went 2-for-3 with a double, Floyd Newman was 2-for-2 with a double, Calvin Jackson was 2-for-2 with a triple and Nolan Coward had a double to give Natchez (3-1, 1-0) seven of the team’s 10 hits in the game.

&uot;We hit the ball well and played as a team,&uot; Kossum said.

Natchez next hosts Franklin County Saturday starting with the B-team game at 10 a.m. followed by the varsity game at 12 p.m.
