In a match billed as a &uot;fun match&uot; by Trinity Episcopal tennis coach Adam Cardneaux and the &uot;city championship&uot; by Adams County Christian School tennis coach Nicki Freeman, ACCS defeated Trinity five matches to four Wednesday afternoon at the Trinity Tennis Courts.

In the number one boys singles match, Trinity’s Tyler Burns defeated ACCS’s Joseph Thornton, 6-2, 6-2. In the number two boys singles match, ACCS’s Walter Freeman defeated Trinity’s Austin Cardneaux, 6-1, 6-4 in the battle between the coaches’ sons.

&uot;It was a good match,&uot; Freeman said. &uot;He played pretty hard. We’ve been playing against each other for a while, so it was a good match.&uot;

In the No. 1 girls singles match, Amy Hall of ACCS defeated Ashley Pearson of Trinity, 7-5, 6-0.

In the No. 1 boys doubles match, Chris Dent and Warren Freeman of ACCS defeated Brett Mount and Cory Vanvlymen of Trinity in a three-set thriller, 4-6, 6-4 and 7-4 in the tiebraker.

&uot;It was my first tennis match,&uot; Dent said. &uot;And I played hard and won.&uot;

In the No. 1 girls double match, Trinity’s Phebe Winters and Lindsey Hunt defeated Amanda Hill and Betsy Spinks of ACCS, 6-0, 6-1.

In the No. 2 girls doubles match, Winters teamed up with Pearson to defeat Brittany Bryant and Stephanie Wilson of ACCS, 6-1, 6-4.

&uot;Lindsey and I played well. Ashley and I had trouble in the second set,&uot; said Winters about the two matches she played. &uot;They were both such good partners that we pulled it through.&uot;

In the mixed doubles match, Trinity’s duo of Jennifer Paradise and Ian Doherty defeated the ACCS team of Lindsey Etheridge and Russell Skates, 6-1, 6-0.

&uot;Ian is a tennis machine,&uot; Paradise said. &uot;Playing with him made me play better.&uot;

Trinity led ACCS 4-3 with two matches still going, the number two boys doubles match and the number two girls singles match.

Dent and Lee Blanton of ACCS won the boys doubles match over Alex Allain and Mark Hamlin of Trinity, 6-3, 6-2. Jessica Faulkner of ACCS defeated Paradise in the girls singles match, which ended up being the deciding match, 6-2, 6-4.

&uot;I had fun,&uot; Faulkner said. &uot;I’m glad that I won my first match because that’ll boost my confidence for the rest of the season.&uot;

&uot;I have never played a singles match in my life,&uot; Paradise said. &uot;But, it was fun. Jessica played well.&uot;
