Natchez police were still searching Thursday for a man suspected of murdering Alex Carter early Wednesday. Police have issued a warrant for Cedric W. Williams, 41, whose last known address was 802 North Rankin St., in connection with the shooting death.

A second suspect, Brandy H. Forman, 21, of 113 Jim New Road in Ferriday, La., was arraigned Thursday for accessory after the fact to murder. She was being held on a $50,000 bond Thursday evening and faces a preliminary hearing on April 19.

&uot;Only thing I know is that these three people were together (Tuesday night) and sometime during the night Alex ended up dead,&uot; said Natchez Police Chief Willie Huff.

A school bus driver found 20-year-old Carter’s body lying facedown at the end of an abandoned driveway off Old Smith Lane about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Adams County Coroner James Lee said Carter died from massive internal hemorrhage caused by one gunshot wound, most likely from a small-caliber handgun.

Lee estimates that Carter was shot between 3 to 4 a.m. Wednesday. &uot;It was a lethal gunshot wound which could have killed him instantly,&uot; Lee said.

Margaret Carter, Alex Carter’s mother, on Thursday described her son as a &uot;free-hearted&uot; person who was loving and kind.

&uot;He never bothered anybody,&uot; she said. &uot;If he had anything and you asked him for it he would give it to you.&uot;

Carter said she had last spoken to her son Monday. &uot;I look for him now (expecting) to see him,&uot; she said.

Huff said Williams, Forman and Carter were acquaintances prior to the shooting and are believed to have been together Tuesday night. &uot;As far as we know they knew each other and knew where one another hung out,&uot; Huff said.

He offered no further details on a motive for the crime.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating Williams.

Anyone with information about Williams’ whereabouts is asked to call Miss-Lou Crime Stoppers at 442-5000. All calls are anonymous, and a cash reward could be available.
