FERRIDAY, La. – Huntington picked up another important district win on Tuesday as the Hounds blasted Chamberlain-Hunt 10-0 in Ferriday.

The win keeps the Hounds undefeated in the district with a 4-0 mark.

&uot;We were a little more patient at the plate tonight than we usually are,&uot; Huntington skipper Mitch Ashmore said. &uot;That allowed us to build a big early lead and get some of our younger players a little playing time in a varsity game.&uot;

The Hounds offense was up and running from the very first innings as Huntington built a quick 2-0 lead.

A lead-off base on balls by Barrett Kiser was followed by a RBI double from John Mark Bonnett, and Bonnett scored later in the frame on a passed ball to account for the two runs.

As it turned out the two runs would be all freshman pitcher Will Moak would need as the ninth grader limited Chamberlain-Hunt to no runs on just two hits. He also struck out 10 batters in just five innings of work.

&uot;Will is going to be a very good pitcher for this team for many years to come,&uot; Ashmore said. &uot;The only thing I would have liked to have seen him do better tonight is limit the number of pitches he threw. He had too many pitches for a five-inning game.&uot;

The second inning proved to be the big one for the Hounds as they sent 12 batters to the plate and scored eight runs to push the lead to 10-0.

Trey Mason and Bronson Rhodes got the inning started with back-to-back singles, and Crawford Kifer made it three straight when he drove in Mason with a RBI rip to center.

Kiser then walked to load the bases for Bonnett. Once again Bonnett came through with an RBI hit, this time a double that plated two Hounds for a 6-0 lead.

Luke Davis pushed the Huntington advantage to 8-0 when he drove in Kiser and Bonnett with a double of his own.

Wyatt Kemp and Mason also picked up RBI hits later in the inning to leave Chamberlain-Hunt with a double-digit deficit after just two innings of play.

Mason’s double chased Chamberlain-Hunt starting pitcher Will Jones from the game. Jones pitched only one and two thirds innings, but he gave up 10 runs and allowed nine hits.

Austin Fagan replaced Jones and retired the next two batters for the only bright spot in a tough second inning for the visiting Wildcats.

With the victory well in hand, Ashmore went with several of his younger players in the final couple of innings. But with Moak in control on the mound, Chamberlain-Hunt failed to mount a serious scoring threat until the top of the fifth.

After Moak struck out the first two Wildcat batters in the top of the fifth it appeared the game would end quickly. However, a couple of errors and a base on balls gave the visitors runners at second and third with two outs. Moak was able to regain control and struck out Harrison Ward to end the threat and the game with the Hounds in front 10-0.

Up next for Huntington is another district contest, this time on the road at Pine Hill on Friday at 7 p.m.
