Natchez police are searching for a man who allegedly carjacked a Jackson cab driver early Tuesday morning and released the victim in the parking lot of a Natchez grocery store.

The victim, who was a driver for Veteran’s Cab company in&160;Jackson, said she was refueling her Veteran’s Cab vehicle at about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at a gas station on High Street in Jackson.

A man approached the cab driver, pointed a gun at her and forced her to get in the cab and drive him in the direction of Natchez.

&uot;He just kept telling her she was going to have to stay with him,&uot; said Natchez Police Chief Willie Huff.

After making the nearly two hour drive, the man forced the driver to drive around the north part of Natchez as the suspect made several telephone calls on a cellular telephone, Huff said.

&uot;I believe he called somebody to come pick him up,&uot; Huff said. &uot;I think that he was familiar with the area.&uot;

The suspect released the victim and her vehicle at Natchez Market II on U.S. 61 North at around 10 a.m, Huff said.

The suspect left the scene with the victim’s keys and about $150 and according to the victim he may have gotten into a maroon Chevrolet Lumina.

The victim saw the maroon vehicle leaving the parking lot at about the same time, Huff said. &uot;She was upset,&uot; he said. &uot;She was probably scared to death.&uot;

The victim was not injured during the incident and Veteran’s Cabs in Jackson reported her vehicle missing early Tuesday morning, Huff said.

She described the subject as a black male in his early 20s with a medium dark complexion. He is described as at least 5 feet 6 inches tall, clean-shaven with faded blond hair, police reports said. Huff said he hoped the man’s unusual appearance might help someone spot the suspect.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to call Miss-Lou Crime Stoppers at 442-5000. All calls are anonymous, and a cash reward could be available.

Robert Graham, public relations officer with the Jackson Police Department, said he could not find a record of a carjacking in Jackson Tuesday morning.
