Cathedral tennis team remains undefeated

Cathedral High’s tennis team remained undefeated in overall and Division 6-2A play after defeating Wesson 5-2 Monday at the Duncan Park Tennis Courts.

In the boys singles match, Cathedral’s Clay Pennington defeated Wesson’s Tyler Broom, 6-0, 6-0.

Wesson’s only two wins against Cathedral occurred in the girls singles matches.

Wesson’s Jessica Phillips defeated Cathedral’s Erin Wentworth 6-2, 6-3 and Lauren Hudson defeated Claire Cothren of Cathedral 7-6 (7-4 in the tiebraker).

Bennett Jeansonne and Christian Leurinda of Cathedral had no problem in disposing of Wesson’s Cory Puckett and Wade Williams in the boys doubles match, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Stacy Verucchi and Jennifer Blain of Cathedral won the girls doubles match over Wesson’s Mare Sims and Kristen Cross by the same 6-0, 6-0 score.

In the mixed doubles matches, Cathedral’s Kate Reid and Chase Ogden defeated Brittany King and Richie Miller of Wesson, 6-1, 6-0 while Kelin Hendricks and Blake Mason of Cathedral won their match, 8-0.

Cathedral improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Division 6-2A. The Green Wave will host Richland at 4 p.m. today at Duncan Park.
