The Trinity Saints got a big performance from pitcher Elliot Meng and took advantage of five Pine Hills errors for a 10-0 win over the Wildcats Tuesday in an MPSA District 5-1A game at the Trinity baseball field.

The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Meng allowed only one hit, a lead-off single by shortstop David Brown to start the game, struck out seven and walked four in five innings to pick up the win.

&uot;He’s in the groove,&uot; said Trinity head coach David King. &uot;When he’s on the mound, his teammates know they have a chance to win.&uot;

Trinity (6-6, 4-2) jumped on Pine Hills pitcher Steve McKenzie in the bottom of the first inning, scoring five times and sending 10 batters to the plate.

Meng helped his own cause with a single that scored Cole Brown and Walt Ketchings.

Two batters later, Gregory Ketchings singled to score Meng and Wes Middleton and later scored on an Wildcat error.

&uot;Our bats are starting to come alive,&uot; King said. &uot;Middleton and (Cole) Brown have kept this team together.&uot;

McKenzie, the losing pitcher, was relieved by Taylor Knapp after pitching just one inning, allowing four earned runs on five hits and one walk. Pine Hills (3-10, 1-5) didn’t have a chance after that as Meng struck out half of the 14 batters he faced between the second and fifth innings.

After two scoreless and hitless innings, Trinity scored twice off Knapp in the fourth inning as Cole Brown and Walt Ketchings scored on another Pine Hills error.

Trinity plays at Chamberlain-Hunt at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
