New vehicle offered as prize for hole-in-one at tourney

Area golfers have the chance to win one of two vehicles this weekend during The Harvest Club’s 25th annual golf tournament at Duncan Park. Great River Oldsmobile-Nissan-GMC and East Auto will present the keys to a new vehicle to anyone who hits a hole-in-one on hole No. 13 at Duncan Park Golf Course during this weekend’s 36-hole tournament that will benefit local youth, said Harvest Club President Robert Henderson.

The tournament will feature seven flights, including a championship flight, five men’s flight’s and one senior flight for golfers over 55. Prizes will be awarded through the first three places in each flight. Awards will be given for the ball closest to the pin, the low medalist and the longest drive.

A registration and social, according to a flyer released by the group, will be held at the Isle of Capri Hotel – located at 645 Canal St. – from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. A $125 entry fee will be due at that time. Anyone calling the hotel for information on the tournament should indicate they are calling about The Harvest Club tournament. Saturday’s tee time is set for 10 a.m., although Sunday’s round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

Organized in 1975 under the direction of the late Albert Carr Sr., the club’s main objective is to serve the youth in the Miss-Lou area.

&uot;We provide free golf clinics, make donations to various organizations and hold open-forum discussions to determine the concerns of our area youth so that we may better address their problems,&uot; a letter said. &uot;We also focus on the ills of substance abuse.&uot;

The letter also said, &uot;Our goals are to provide positive role models for all the youths of the Miss-Lou area. This goal can only continue to be realized and be effective by your support.&uot;
