Wyles leads Vidalia to beat Green Wave

Finally, the weather cooperated for the Vidalia Vikings and the Cathedral Green Wave for the first time this season. Unfortunately for Cathedral, they couldn’t do anything about the pitching of Vidalia’s Bubba Wyles and the hitting of Jarrett Hoffpauir as the Vikings came away with a 2-0 win Wednesday at Chester Willis Field.
Wyles, the winning pitcher, came out on top in a pitcher’s duel with Cathedral’s Ben Eidt, scattering seven hits, striking out one and walking one in seven innings.
Eidt also went the distance, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five and walking only one.
&uot;Heck of a ball game,&uot; said Vidalia head coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir. &uot;Bubba Wyles did a heck of a job pitching. He threw the knuckleball for strikes. We had good defense behind him.&uot;
Vidalia’s defense made two key plays in the first two innings to keep Cathedral off the scoreboard.
After Eidt led off the bottom of the first inning with a double and Key Smith hit a one-out single to advance Eidt to third, Scott McLemore hit a hard shot right to third baseman Barry Bowden, who then stepped on third to tag out Eidt.
Cathedral returns to Division 6-2A play when it hosts Wesson Friday.
Vidalia returns to District 3-2A play when it plays at Block today.
