Storm knocks out power in Miss-Lou

NATCHEZ – Easter Sunday brought scattered power outages to the Miss-Lou after a thunderstorm knocked down several trees during the afternoon.

&uot;It’s not too good an Easter but other than that it’s OK I reckon,&uot;&160;said Tommy Provance, manager of operations for Southwest Mississippi Power and Light Association, referring to the weather causing problems for Easter events.

But whenever a storm brings wind and knocks down trees, outages tend to happen, Provance said.

&uot;It’s just one of those things where you have to get through it.&uot; he said.

He expected most of the company’s customers to have their power restored by early Sunday evening.

Southwest Mississippi Power and Light Association had some outages around Kingston Road where an electrical pole was knocked down, Provance said.

The company also had outages along Cloverdale Road and outside Adams County in Gloster, Woodville and Port Gibson.

Entergy Customer Services Manager Forest Persons said&160;that company also had scattered outages in Adams County.

These included about 160 customers in the Montebello area, 260 customers in LaGrange, 90 customers in Bryandale Subdivision, 75 customers at Tara Apartments and 20 customers in the Roselawn area lost power Sunday.

&uot;(We) don’t have any major stuff,&uot; Persons said.

Entergy called in some outside employees to help address the outages, Persons said.

Outside Adams County, the company also had about 50 outages in Gloster, about 12 in Meadville and one in Fayette, Persons said.

All customers were expected to have their power restored by Sunday evening, he said.

Trees were blown down in the areas of Eastwood Road, Rosehill Drive, Kingston Road, Mt. Carmel Church Road, Spokane Road, Cloverdale Road, Liberty Road, Southhampton Road and West Stiers Lane, according Adams County Civil Defense Director George Souderes.

Kathleen Stevens, a spokesperson with the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Department said that area had scattered power outages and down trees in the areas of Deadening Road, Concordia Park, Ames Road and Louisiana 15 near Deerpark.
