The Adams County Christian Rebels pounded out 15 hits and got solid pitching from junior Russ Marks enroute to an 11-1 win over the Central Private Rebels Friday afternoon at the ACCS baseball field to capture the MPSA District 4-3A Tournament title.

ACCS scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to 10-run rule Central Private.

ACCS, 18-5, added the tournament title to its regular-season crown and extended its winning streak to 11 games.

&uot;We set a goal last week after winning district that we would be 18-5 and win the tournament on our home field,&uot; said ACCS head coach Gill Morris.

Marks was impressive on the mound for ACCS as he had a no-hitter through five innings before that was broken up by Shane O’Callaghan with two outs in the top of the sixth.

Marks allowed one run and two hits while striking out three and walking two in six innings to pick up the win.

&uot;I felt real good out there,&uot; he said. &uot;I had some good defense behind me. I had some help behind me because they hit the ball.&uot;

ACCS didn’t waste any time proving it was the top seed in the tournament, scoring three times on four hits in the bottom of the first.

Trey Mardis, who led the Rebels at the plate by going 3-for-5, led things off with a single and later scored on a single by Boo Burchfield. Lee Watts singled and later scored when Te Riley reached on an error. Riley later scored on a Dustin Perry single.

ACCS added one run in the second on an RBI groundout by Riley and three more runs in the fourth on an RBI sacrifice fly, an error and a wild pitch.

&uot;We were probably a little more relaxed than usual,&uot; Morris said. &uot;We wanted to win for our seniors.&uot;

Before O’Callaghan’s single broke up Marks’s attempt at a no-hitter, Aaron Ledig walked, also with two outs, and pinch runner Adam Hunt later scored on a Matt Carter single.

ACCS ended the game with the four runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles by Bruce Wiley, Brian Chandler, Mardis and Watts.

&uot;I was just trying to make contact and get it in the hole,&uot; said Watts, who went 2-for-4, about his game-ending hit.

Burchfield, Riley and Wiley each went 2-for-3 and Perry went 2-for-2 for ACCS.

By virtue of being the top team in District 4-3A, ACCS will play Copiah Academy, the second-place in District 3-3A in the first round of the Class 3A South State Tournament.

The first game will be played at Copiah Academy at 7 p.m. Tuesday. A doubleheader, if a second game is necessary, will be played at ACCS beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
