week, replacing several police patrol cars and vehicles within

the engineering and inspection departments.

City Clerk Donnie Holloway said five patrol cars were replaced,

one used patrol car refurbished for the city inspection department

and two vehicles, including a new van, purchased for the engineering

department.

The older vehicles will be sold through an advertised bid process,

except for the engineering vehicle, which has already been sold.

Natchez Police Chief Willie Huff said all patrol cars are rotated

on a 24-month schedule through a &uot;preventative maintenance&uot;

program.

Huff estimates that police officers put a combined 700,000

miles on patrol cars each year.

The new vehicles were purchased from the Butch Oustalet dealership

in Biloxi, as are all government vehicles as part of a state contract.
