Aviation ordnancemen move a 1,000-pound bomb onto the flight

deck of the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson in preparation for

strikes against al Qaida terrorist training camps and Taliban

military installations in Afghanistan. Missiles and warplanes

streaked through the Afghan night and rocked at least three cities

in a U.S.-British attack on Osama bin Laden and his Taliban backers.
