Local school systems begin food programs

In the upcoming weeks, public school systems in the surrounding area will offer free summer food programs for children.

The Natchez-Adams School District will serve hot meals until June 29 at Frazier Primary School and West Primary School.

It will serve hot meals until July 13 at McLaurin Elementary School, Morgantown Elementary School, Natchez High School and Natchez Middle School.

It will serve sandwiches until July 13 at the Broadmoor Community Ballfield and the LaGrange Playground.

All meals will be served from 11 am. to 1 p.m. at all sites except at Natchez High School, which will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

All food must be eaten on-site and is free to all children 18-years-old or younger.

The Wilkinson County School District will offer summer tutorials and a summer food service program from June 11 to July 11 at Finch Elementary School.

The program will last from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and breakfast will be served only to students attending tutorials. Lunch will be served to anyone 18 or younger from 11 a.m. to noon. Those individuals will only be allowed in the cafeteria at that time and will not be allowed to loiter on campus.

Transportation will only be provided for students who are enrolled in summer tutorials. Summer school will be for enrichment and remediation and not for promotion.

Holidays will be observed July 4 through July 6.

The Jefferson County School District will operate a summer food service program from now until June 29 at the Jefferson County Middle-Elementary School. Free meals will be provided from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to anyone 18-years-old or younger.
