The fight to cure cancer and a love for tennis will come together this weekend during Natchez’s 22nd-annual AmSouth Cancer Tennis Tournament

&uot;I have cancer in my family,&uot; said Suzan Hogue, co-chair of the tournament. &uot;I feel like I’m doing a small but significant part in contributing to the American Cancer Society.&uot;

Hogue coordinates the tournament with Noreen Pyron through the Natchez Community Tennis Association.

&uot;Noreen and I are both from tennis families,&uot; Hogue said.

With their shared background and years of experience with the tournament, Hogue said she and Pyron have learned to bring it together without a hitch.

&uot;We know what has to be done, and we usually get it done,&uot; she said.

Hogue said the tournament is &uot;one of the highlights&uot; of Natchez tennis.

&uot;Not only are you helping out a cause you get to play tennis too,&uot; she said.

About 200 people, both local and from out-of-town, have registered to participate in the tournament, Hogue said.

The tournament will take place today, Saturday and Sunday at Duncan Park and at other tennis courts in the Miss-Lou.
