RICHMOND, Va. – Janice Davis of Natchez came up just short of earning her second spot on the U.S. Junior National Track and Field team when she came in third in the 100 meters on Sunday.

Davis won her preliminary heat with a time of 11.67, but in the finals her time slipped to 11.74, well off her best-ever time of 11.44 set at the Mississippi 5A state track meet last month.

Only the top two participants in each event qualified for a spot on the U.S. Junior National Team that will compete in England and Scotland in August.

Despite the disappointing time in the 100 meters, Davis has earned a spot on the team thanks to her first place finish in the 200 meters on Saturday.

In July, Davis will travel to Hungary as part of the National Junior Olympic Team.
