Opal Tate Cox

Nov. 18, 1908 – June 14, 2001

WARREN, Ark. – Graveside services for Opal Tate Cox, 92, of Texarkana, Texas, and formerly of Vidalia, La., and Warren, who died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Little River Hospital in Ashdown, Ark., will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Oakland Cemetery with the Rev. Wayman Mann officiating.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Frazer’s Funeral Home of Warren.

Cox was born Nov. 18, 1908, in Warren to Elmer and Marguerite Rice Tate.

She was a Methodist and worked as a beautician.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and her parents.

Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Patricia Lilly and Charles Kirsten of Los Angeles; one granddaughter, Dr. Cynthia Kirsten of Novato, Calif.; one great-granddaughter, Lisa Krug of Novato, Calif.; two brothers, Robert Tate of Warren, and James E. Tate of Pine Way, Ark.; one niece, Shirley Atkinson of Texas; and one grandniece, Annette Mackey of Texarkana.

M.C. Booker

Dec. 25, 1939 – June 19, 2001

KIRBY – Services for M.C. Booker, 61, of Roxie, who died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Meadville, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Kirby with the Rev. August Washington officiating.

Burial will be in Byrd Cemetery in Kirby under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Fayette.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

Booker was born Dec. 25, 1939, in Franklin County to Dave and Carrie Fleming Booker.

He attended school through the eighth grade and retired from J.P. Plating Manufacturing Plant in Chicago as a laborer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Nolan Booker; and one sister, Beatrice Keys.

Survivors include one son, Billy Nelson of Roxie; two sisters, Ruthie Muhammad and Lida Booker, both of Roxie; one uncle, Monroe Fleming of New Orleans; one aunt, Lillie Lee of Bude; one grandson, Marcus Nelson of Roxie; one friend, Walter Ike Smith of Kirby; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
