Mississippi State Extension System for Adams County is seeking a &uot;few good gardeners&uot; to serve as volunteers through the Mississippi Master Gardeners Volunteer Program.

The program is an educational program designed to enhance public education in home horticulture.

Beginning July 5, a selected group of individuals will begin training to become master gardeners. The training begins with the general concepts of plant science and builds on them to form a well-rounded knowledge of horticulture and gardening.

Volunteers will receive the most up-to-date information available about Mississippi soils, flowers, shrubs, trees, weeds, vegetables, plant propagation, fruits and nuts, diseases and insects.

The volunteers will complete 40 hours of intense horticulture training divided into 10 weekly Thursday morning sessions, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Participants must complete the training and pass an examination. In return for the training, these volunteers will be expected to donate 40 hours of their time assisting MSU Extension Service in Adams County with educational efforts in horticulture.

The Master Gardener Volunteer Program allows the local Extension Service to reach an ever-increasing gardening audience. It provides the Extension Service with a highly visible way to meet the public demand for information.
