An elderly woman escaped a fire at her residence Wednesday thanks to the help of her four-year-old great-grandson.

At 7 p.m. Ruby West said Montreal West went to a room to get some toys. He saw the fire and told her about it.

&uot;It’s just luck,&uot; West said about their escape. &uot;He was excited. (It) scared him.&uot;

Her son, Gregory West, later made sure she and her great-grandson got out of the house.

Commander Stan Owens of the Natchez Fire Department said he was uncertain as to the cause of the fire Wednesday evening.

West lived at the house with her family including her great-grandson, her son.
