&uot;I’m just ready to run.&uot;
That’s what Janice Davis said she would do when she arrived in Debrechen, Hungary on Monday to compete in the USA World Track Meet.
Davis – a state and local standout from Natchez High School – said she’s more than excited about her second trip to the competition.
&uot;I’m very excited,&uot; she said. &uot;The top runners in the world will be at this meet. It’s an honor to be mentioned them.&uot;
Davis will compete in the Swedish Sprint Medley, a relay in which four athletes run different distances.
&uot;I will run the 300-meter in the preliminaries,&uot; she said. &uot;But I’ll probably run the 200-meter in the competition.&uot;
The runner, who was ranked in the top 10 in the world last year, qualified for the world meet with a second place finish at the U.S.A. Junior Olympics. She said other times also aided that finish in her selection.
&uot;A lot of us are old friends,&uot; she said of other runners on her team. &uot;We’ve ran together for a while now.&uot;
At last year’s event, Davis competed against Israelis, Kenyans and Polish runners. This year, she said Jamaican runners would give the U.S. a run for it’s money.
