Natchez team advances to title

SUMMIT – With a 6-3 win over Brookhaven, the Natchez 13-year-old Sll Star team earned a berth in the championship game at the Dixie Youth Sub District Tournament here on Monday.

Natchez hurler Timmy Foster struck out five batters and gave up four hits to help his team to the win, while Micheal Chatman drove in two runs with two doubles and a triple.

&uot;We didn’t play our best,&uot; Chatman said, &uot;but we played well.&uot;

Chatman’s first RBI came in the first inning with Benji Maher on second. Chatman’s double went deep enough into left field to score Maher.

&uot;We played well today,&uot; coach Tim Foster said. &uot;It was hot out there, but the guys relaxed and came out and won the game.&uot;

With the win, Natchez earned a bye today, but will face the winner of the Summit-Brookhaven loser’s bracket game for the title at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Summit defeated Copiah 7-0 in a tournament elimination game.

&uot;The entire team played well,&uot; Foster said. &uot;But we had some players step up tonight.

&uot;We didn’t hit the ball well tonight,&uot; he said. &uot;But when you face the kind of pitching we faced tonight, you just do your best.&uot;
