Two nights ago, Jeremy Davis led the Natchez All-Stars to 14-5 win over Wilk-Amite with his bat, smacking two home runs.

Wednesday night, he guided the team into the championship game of the District 4 Dixie Boys 14-year-old tournament at Liberty Park with his pitching.

The righthander shut out the Summit All-Stars on three hits, netting Natchez a 4-0 win.

&uot;What can I say about Jeremy’s pitching?&uot; said coach Joe Eidt. &uot;(It was) the game of his career. He proved he’s as good as anybody in the state.&uot;

Davis kept Summit hitters off balance all night, throwing a blazing fastball they could never catch up with and a mix of change ups and curve balls. And he had good control, walking only two batters and letting only five batters work the count to three balls.

&uot;He pitched really well,&uot; said David Trisler. &uot;He just went all the way and carried us with him.&uot;

Craig Dickerson, Summit’s hurler, was just as effective in the early innings. He yielded only one hit in four innings while walking three.

But in the fifth, Trisler jacked a homer to centerfield with the wind blowing in to give Natchez all the run support it needed.

&uot;I was just trying to get up and get things started,&uot; Trisler said. &uot;I thought it might’ve had a shot when I hit it, but I didn’t know if it would make it.&uot;

Later in the fifth, Jaime Morris drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Andrew Ellard then continued his solid hitting with a run batted in single down the third base line.

Davis dominated after getting his run support. In the fifth, he gave up a single, but picked off Jud Honea at second. In the sixth, he struck out Jeremy Wallace and then got two groundouts from Jeremy Lofton and Justin Hay. In the seventh, he retired the side in order with a strike out and two pop ups.

Eidt said he didn’t have to think too hard about giving Davis the ball. &uot;It wasn’t a decision. He’s my horse.&uot;

Natchez added insurance in the top of the seventh, as Morris sliced a double down the right field line to score Andrew Kaiser. After being sacrificed by Ellard to third, Morris came home on an error by the shortstop.

Natchez and Summit tangle today at 7 p.m. for the title.
