SUMMIT – They took the lead and never looked back.

After a rain delay forced the Natchez 13-year-old All Stars to wait another day to finish their game, the team exploded with a six-run fourth to take the 13-year-old District 4 championship here Friday night.

Benji Maher pitched six scoreless innings to help Natchez to the 12-1 win.

&uot;After it was rained out Thursday, they were hungry to go back and finish,&uot; coach Tim Foster said after the win. &uot;I told them they needed to keep their heads straight and they did.&uot;

Chris Seeger drew a lead-off walk in the top of the second inning to start the rally.

Micheal Chatman stepped to the plate and doubled into left to move Seeger to third.

Two batters later, Corey Walker’s two-out single scored Seeger and Chatman to put Natchez on the board. Cole Bradford, who went 2-for-5 on the night, ripped a two-strike double into center field and scored Walker to give Natchez a 3-0 lead.

Then, David New III and Timmy Foster cleaned things up.

New took a 2-1 pitch out of the park, which drove in Bradford as well. Foster stepped to the plate and homered putting Natchez up 6-0 in the top of the fourth.

Natchez travels to Forrest on Saturday to take on Columbia at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the state tournament.
