FERRIDAY, La. – As discussed at a recent meeting, the board members of the Boys & Girls Club of the Delta voted Friday to disband their organization to put their support behind the Concordia Catahoula YMCA effort.

The move was necessary because the parishes do not have the finances to support two such organizations.

&uot; The money is just not available,&uot; said Clarence L. Hymon, outgoing president of the board for the Boys & Girls Club of the Delta.

A regional director of the Boys &&160;Girls Club had committed last month to give the local club $55,000 for its programs.

But the club only had until the end of the month to hire a director and raise $30,000 in donations to match a $21,169 grant from the Red River Delta Planning & Development District.

Since it could not accomplish those goals in that short timeframe, Hymon views this option as a positive one.

The Concordia/Catahoula YMCA also stands ready to receive financial assistance from agencies such as the United Way and the Rapides Foundation, Hymon said.
