NATCHEZ – Five Christmas trees displaying the patriotic spirit of Natchez students will be put on display at the Natchez Visitor Reception Center today.

Students at Adams County Christian School, Cathedral School, McLaurin Elementary School, Trinity Episcopal Day School and West Primary School made patriotic ornaments for the trees. The trees were then displayed at Colleen Garfield’s House during the recent Christmas Tour of Homes to benefit the Friend’s of the Library.

&uot;I can’t tell you how many times I cried because each tree is just beautiful,&uot; Garfield said.

Including among the trees is the &uot;We Remember&uot; Tree decorated by students at McLaurin Elementary School. It is decorated with a chain that includes the name of every victim from Sept. 11.

&uot; They read aloud each name as the chain was put together,&uot; Garfield said.

The trees will be placed on display at the center on Tuesday.

&uot;Everybody’s going to be touched by them,&uot; Garfield said.

At 1 p.m. today, Natchez High School and Morgantown Elementary School students will visit the center to sing around the trees.

McLaurin Elementary School students will sing at the center at 9:30 p.m., Wednesday.

Adults were so touched by the children’s patriotic efforts they decided to purchase Christmas gifts for the children who live at the Guardian Shelter, said Connie Taunton.

Kelly’s Kids offered to provide the children clothes.

Anyone who would like to participate can contact Taunton at the Natchez Convention and Visitor’s Bureau at 446-6345.
